Electrical supply for your Hot Tub or Spa

Plug & Play Spas

These will be one pump spas with either a 2kw or 3kw heater and a 13/16amp supply will suitable for these hot tubs. Although these are called “plug and play” these spas do not arrive at your house with a cable and plug attached. You will ideally need a 16amp IP44 Commando Outdoor Switched Socket or a 13amp IP66 Switched Socket (for a 3 pin plug) sited somewhere near to the location of your proposed spa.

Both options will then require a suitable length of cable to reach from the socket to the hot tub control box (armoured if the cable is to be exposed) with the appropriate plug on one end this will either be a 3 pin plug for the 13amp option or a 16amp Commando Plug for the 16amp version and bare cable ends at the spa end, these bare ends will be connected into the PCB board in the control box, please ensure the cable is long enough to reach anywhere inside the spa cabinet.

Hot Tubs requiring a 32A Supply

For spas with two or more pumps a 32amp supply will be required this usually means a direct feed from the household consumer unit leading to either a 32amp IP44 Switched Commando Socket or a IP65 Isolator Switch.

If you choose a 32amp Switched Commando Socket this will then need a 32amp Commando Plug with a trailing cable (armoured if the cable is to be exposed) with bare ends which will be connected into the PCB board in the control box.

Should you choose the IP65 Isolator then a trailing cable (no plug required of course) will come from the Isolator and once again will require bare ends which will be connected into the PCB board in the control box.

In both cases please ensure that the trailing cable leading to the spa is left long enough to reach anywhere inside the spa cabinet. And the supply is left switched off at the consumer unit and also with the “live, earth and neutral” clearly marked.
